POLITICS

·        He was appointed as lecturer in Physics in K.B. Post Graduate College, Mirzapur 1971.

·        He was organizing secretary of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (A.B.V.P) in Gorakhpur Division from 1969 to 1971.

·        In 1974 he was appointed as secretary of Bhartiya Jan Sangh's Mirzapur Unit.

·        Mr. Singh was deeply inspired by the leadership of Jaya Prakash Narayana and started working for the cause of the movement Soon after he was appointed as District Convener of J.P. movement. Mr. Singh was arrested in July 1975 and was put in jails of Mirzapur and Naini. He was released after the revocation of emergency in 1977.

·        In 1975 he was appointed as district President of Jana Sangh

·        In the 1977 general elections he was elected as MLA from the Mirzapur constituency. In 1983 he was appointed as State Secretary of U.P.BJP. In 1984 he was appointed as State President of BJP's youth wing.

·        He was appointed as National President of the youth wing, member of the National Executive BJP and member of UP Legislative Council from 6th may to April 94.

·        In 1990 he was appointed state Vice-President UP BJP

·        In 1991 he was appointed as Education Minister

·        He was member of Rajya Sabha from 4th April 1994 to 4th April 2000 and again from 4th April 2000 to 18th October 2001. He was also appointed as chief whip of BJP in Rajya Sabha.

·        1997 he was appointed as UP, BJP president.

·        1999 he was appointed as Minister for Surface Transport in Government of India.

·        He remained Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh from 28 October, 2000 to 08 March 2002.

·        He won the by-election held on 9th April, 2001 and became the member of Legislative Assembly.

·        He is member of 15th Lok Sabha, 2009.
